does-size-matterRomans used to celebrate penises, but now they are considered vulgar.  There are not a lot of options for men to learn that there are a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors to penises.  There are also not many examples of what average penises look like and the reality that most women are sexually satisfied with average.

Based on surveys, 55-65% of men are satisfied with their penises.  Of the men who are not, most want a larger penis.  This is largely viewed as a consequence of pornography and lack of exposure to normal size penises in porn, art, and medical literature. Messages such as “size matters” are also problematic.  Allow me to challenge this myth by looking at the data below!

Bigger penis size does not lead to increased skill in satisfying or pleasuring a sexual partner.  In fact, most heterosexual women are satisfied with their partner’s penis; 85% of them (Lever et al., 2006).  In addition, 66.3% of women reported that their own pleasure was not affected by penis size and (to most men’s surprise) women experienced more pleasure with shorter than average penis length (Costa, Miller, & Brody, 2012). The female genitalia is designed to experience more pleasure with vulva and near the vaginal opening than deeper inside, based on the location of sensitive nerve endings (clitorus and clitoral bulb). At 4.3-4.7 inches, vaginal depth when aroused, is slightly smaller than the average penis (Masters and Johnson, 1966).  Take a breath and think about it, the average penis size when erect is a length of 5.2 inches (13.1 centimeters).  Now you know, that with an average sized penis you can create pleasure for your partner and you can “park that big mack truck right in this little garage.”

“A review of 20 studies of penis size that together included over 15,000 male participants who had their penises measured by trained clinicians, revealed that the median (i.e., 50th percentile) flaccid penis length was 3.9 inches (9.2 centimeters) and the median circumference was 3.7 inches (9.3 centimeters; Veale et al., 2015). This same review reported that for an erect penis, the median length was 5.2 inches (13.1 centimeters) while the median circumference was 4.6 inches (11.6 centimeters).”  Only 2.5% of men have 6.9 inches or longer (Lever et al., 2006).

Women and men have various genital preferences related to size, shape, and texture, which affect sensations and stimulation during sex.

What would it be like to have your penis celebrated?
